케임브릿지 사전은 'optics'를 "the public's opinion and understanding of a situation after seeing it as the media shows it, and the possible political effects of this(어떤 사건이 미디어가 보여 준 이후, 대중의 의견과 그 이해 방식, 그리고 그것이 가질 수 있는 정치적 효과)"라고 정의했다.

"The political optics of this are horrible for the GOP(그것의 정치적 이미지는 미국 공화당에게 아주 끔찍하다)."

콜린스 사전은 'optics'를 이렇게 설명했다. "The optics of an action or event are the way it looks to people(어떤 행동 또는 사건의 optics는 그것이 사람들에게 보이는 방식이다)."

"The optics of the situation are pretty bad(그 상황은 대중들에게 꽤 나쁘게 보인다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'optics'를 "the way a situation looks to the general public(어떤 상황이 일반 대중에게 보이는 방식)"이라고 풀이했다.

"The optics of this protest will either take it to historic highs, or cause it fall apart quickly(그 시위의 이미지는 그것을 역사적으로 아주 높은 수준으로 끌어올리든가, 아니면 그것이 재빨리 결딴나게 할 것이다)."
