케임브릿지 사전은 'moonshot'을 "a plan or aim to do something that seems almost impossible(거의 불가능해 보이는 일을 하려는 계획 또는 목표)"이라고 정의했다.

"The company has received funding from the US Department of Energy, so it looks as if someone believes this moonshot could work(그 기업은 미국 에너지성에서 기금을 받았고, 그러니 이 대담한 계획이 이루어질 수도 있다고 믿는 사람이 있는 것 같아 보인다)."

"He believes the Covid testing moonshot is the only way out for the UK economy in the face of a probable winter surge(그는 야심찬 코비드 검사 계획이 영국의 경제가 겨울에 일어날 법한 (코비드 양성 환자 수의) 급증에서 벗어날 수 있는 유일한 방법이라 믿는다)."

콜린스 사전은 'moonshot'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you refer to an idea or a plan as a moonshot, you mean it is on a scale that is so large it is almost impossible to achieve(어떤 아이디어나 계획을 moonshot이라고 표현한다면, 그것이 아주 커서 성취하기가 거의 불가능할 정도라는 뜻이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'moonshot'을 "a type of thinking that aims to achieve something that is generally believed to be impossible(대개 불가능하다고 여겨지는 일을 성취하는 것을 목표로 하는 종류의 사고)"이라고 풀이했다.
