케임브릿지 사전은 'spread yourself too thin'을 "to try to do too many things at the same time, so that you cannot give enough time or attention to any of them(어떤 하나에도 충분한 시간이나 관심을 주지 못할 정도로 너무 많은 일을 동시에 하려고 하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"I realized I'd been spreading myself too thin so I resigned as secretary of the golf club(나는 너무 많은 일을 벌렸다는 걸 깨달았고 그래서 골프 클럽의 총무직에서 사임했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'spread yourself too thin'을 "to try to do a lot of different things at the same time, with the result that you cannot do any of them properly(동시에 많은 다른 일들을 하려고 해서, 그것들 중 하나도 제대로 할 수 없는 결과를 낳다)"라고 설명했다.
