케임브릿지 사전은 'insufferable'을 "very annoying, unpleasant, or uncomfortable, and therefore extremely difficult to bear(아주 짜증나거나, 불쾌하거나, 불편해서 견디기 극도로 어려운)"라고 정의했다.

"She disliked the president, whom she once described as an "insufferable bore"(그녀는 회장[대통령]을 싫어했는데, 그녀는 그를 "견딜 수 없을 정도로 지루한 사람"이라고 묘사한 적이 있다)."

"The underground is insufferable in this heat(지하는 이 열기에 아주 견딜 수 없을 정도다)."

콜린스 사전은 'insufferable'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone or something is insufferable, you are emphasizing that they are very unpleasant or annoying(어떤 사람 또는 사물이 insufferable 하다고 말하면, 그들이 아주 불쾌하거나 짜증난다는 점을 강조하는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)하고 강조하는(emphasis) 표현이다.

"He was an insufferable bore." 

맥밀란 사전은 'insufferable'을 "extremely unpleasant or annoying(극도로 불쾌하거나 짜증나는)"이라고 풀이했다.
