케임브릿지 사전은 'mesmerize'를 "to have someone's attention completely so that they cannot think of anything else(어떤 사람의 관심을 완전히 사로잡아 다른 것을 생각할 수 없을 정도이다)"라고 정의했다.

"I was completely mesmerized by the performance(나는 그  공연에 완전히 매혹되었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'mesmerize'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you are mesmerized by something, you are so interested in it or so attracted to it that you cannot think about anything else(어떤 것에 mersmerize 된다면, 그것에 아주 관심이 있어서, 또는 아주 끌려서 다른 것에 대해서는 생각할 수 없는 것이다)."

"He was absolutely mesmerised by Pavarotti on television(그는 TV에 나온 파바로티에 완전히 매혹되었다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'mesmerize'를 "to attract or interest you so much that you do not notice or pay attention to anything else around you(당신 주위에 있는 다른 것들을 알아차리거나 그것들에 주의를 돌릴 수 없을 정도로 당신을 사로잡거나 당신의 관심을 불러일으키다)"라고 풀이했다.
