케임브릿지 사전은 'overcast'를 "with clouds in the sky and therefore not bright and sunny(하늘에 구름이 있고 그래서 밝거나 쨍쨍하지 않은)"라고 정의했다.

"The sky/weather was overcast(하늘/날씨가 흐렸다)."

"a depressing, overcast winter morning(우울하고, 구름이 낀 겨울 아침)"

콜린스 사전은 'overcast'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If it is overcast, or if the sky or the day is overcast, the sky is completely covered with cloud and there is not much light(overcast 하다면, 또는 하늘이나 날이 overcast 하다면, 하늘이 구름으로 완전히 뒤덮여서, 빛이 별로 없는 것이다)."
