케임브릿지 사전은 'prattle'을 "to talk in a silly way or like a child for a long time about things that are not important or without saying anything important(중요하지 않거나 중요한 것을 전혀 이야기하지 않고 바보같이, 또는 아이처럼 이야기하다)"라고 정의했다.

"She'd have prattled on about her new job for the whole afternoon if I'd let her(그녀는 내가 그렇게 놔두기만 했으면 오후 내내 자신의 새 일에 대해 지껄였을 것이다)."

"Stop your prattling and go to sleep!(그만 지껄이고 자러 가!)"

콜린스 사전은 'prattle'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone prattles on about something, you are criticizing them because they are talking a great deal without saying anything important(누가 어떤 것에 대해 prattle 한다면, 그들이 중요한 이야기는 하지 않으면서 이야기를 많이 한다는 점을 비판하는 것이다)." 인포멀(informal)하고 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.
