케임브릿지 사전은 'reticent'를 "unwilling to speak about your thoughts or feelings(자신의 생각이나 감정에 대해 이야기하기를 꺼리는)"라고 정의했다.

"He is very reticent about his past(그는 자신의 과거에 대해 말을 거의 안 한다)."

"Most of the students were reticent about answering questions(대부분의 학생들은 질문에 대답하기를 꺼렸다)."

콜린스 사전은 'reticent'를 이렇게 설명했다. "Someone who is reticent does not tell people about things."

"She is so reticent about her achievements(그녀는 자신이 성취한 일에 대해 잘 이야기하지 않는다)."

"As a reticent sort, the England defender was reluctant to hog the limelight(말이 별로 없는 이답게, 그 영국 출신 수비 선수는 관심을 독차지하기를 꺼렸다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'reticent'를 "not willing to provide information about something, especially about yourself or your feelings(어떤 것, 특히 자신이나 자신의 감정에 대한 정보를 제공하기를 기꺼워하지 않는)"라고 풀이했다.
