[영어 공부] starry-eyed(몽상[공상]적인, 비현실적인, 이상적인)

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'starry-eyed'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If you are starry-eyed, you have a lot of thoughts and opinions that are unreasonably positive, so you do not understand things as they really are(starry-eyed하다면, 비현실적으로 긍정적인 생각과 의견이 많아서 세상을 있는 그대로 이해하지 못하는 것이다)"

"It's easy to be starry-eyed about a place you've never been to(자기가 가 본 적이 없는 곳에 대해 몽상적이 되기는 쉽다)."

콜린스 사전은 'starry-eyed'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone is starry-eyed, you mean that they have such a positive or hopeful view of a situation that they do not see what it is really like(어떤 사람이 starry-eyed하다면, 어떤 상황에 관해 아주 긍정적이거나 희망적인 관점을 가지고 있어서 그것이 실제로 어떤지를 보지 못하는 것이다)."

"I'm not starry-eyed about Europe(나는 유럽에 몽상을 가지고 있지 않다)." 

"...a starry-eyed young couple(...몽상적인 젊은 커플)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'starry-eyed'를 이렇게 풀이했다. "someone who is starry-eyed has a lot of hopes or dreams about success in the future, but does not plan things in a sensible way(starry-eyed한 사람은 미래에 성공에 관한 희망과 꿈이 많지만 합리적인 방식으로 계획을 세우지는 않는 사람이다)"
