케임브릿지 사전은 'compliant'를 "willing to do what other people want you to do(다른 사람들이 당신이 하길 바라는 일을 기꺼이 하려 하는)"라고 정의했다.

"a compliant child(말을 잘 따르는 아이)"

콜린스 사전은 'compliant'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone is compliant, you mean they willingly do what they are asked to do(어떤 사람이 compliant하다고 말한다면, 그들이 부탁받은 일을 기꺼이 한다는 뜻이다)."

"She was much naughtier than her compliant brother(그녀는 말 잘 듣는 오빠/남동생보다 훨씬 짓궃었다)." 

"...a docile and compliant workforce(...고분고분하고 순응하는 노동력)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'compliant'를 "too willing to agree with other people or to obey rules(너무 기꺼이 다른 사람들에게 동의하거나 규칙을 따르려 하는)"라고 풀이했다.

"By then, Henry seemed less compliant with his wife's wishes than he had six months before(그때 헨리는 6개월 전에 그랬떤 것보다 더 아내의 바람을 따를 마음이 덜한 것 같아 보였다)."
