케임브릿지 사전은 'work in progress'를 "something that is being developed or suggested but that is not yet complete(개발 중인, 또는 제안되긴 했으나 아직 완료되지 않은 것)"라고 정의했다.

"The Senate Minority Leader described the team reorganization as "a work in progress"(상원 소수당 원내 총무는 그 팀의 재편성을 "아직 진행 중인 일"이라고 묘사했다)."

"Tougher regulations remain a work in progress and should be ready for consideration by the council in about two months(더 엄격한 규제는 아직 진행 중이며 약 두 달 내로 의회에 고려될 준비가 되어야 한다)."
