[영어 공부] put your finger on sth(…을 확실히[분명히] 지적하다)
케임브릿지 사전은 'put your finger on something'을 "to discover the exact reason why a situation is the way it is, especially when something is wrong(특히 무언가 좋지 않을 때, 어떤 상황이 왜 그러한지 정확한 이유를 발견하다)"이라고 정의했다.
"There's something odd about him, but I can't quite put my finger on it(걔는 뭔가 이상한 점이 있는데, 정확히 뭔지는 모르겠어)."
롱맨 사전은 'put your finger on something'을 "to know or be able to explain exactly what is wrong, different, or unusual about a situation(왜 어떤 상황에서 정확히 무엇이 틀리거나, 다르거나, 특이한지 알거나 설명할 수 있다)"이라고 설명했다.
"There was something about the man that worried Wycliffe, but he couldn’t put his finger on it(그 남자에게는 위클리프를 걱정시킨 무언가가 있었지만, 정확히 뭐라 말하긴 어려웠다)."
옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 '(not) put your finger on something'을 "to (not) be able to identify what is wrong or different about a particular situation(특정한 상황에 관해 무엇이 틀렸는지 또는 다른지를 구별할 수 있(지 않)다)"이라고 풀이했다.
