케임브릿지 사전은 'lurch'를 "to move in a way that is not regular or normal, especially making sudden movements backwards or forwards or from side to side(특히 앞뒤로, 또는 양옆으로 갑작스레 움직이며, 규칙적이거나 정상적이지 않은 방식으로 움직이다)"라고 정의했다.

"The train lurched forward and some of the people standing fell over(그 기차는 앞으로 휘청거렸고, 서 있던 탑승객들 일부는 넘어졌다)."
