콜린스 사전은 'stitch up'을 이렇게 정의했다. "To stitch someone up means to trick them so that they are put in a difficult or unpleasant situation, especially one where they are blamed for something they have not done(어떤 사람을 stitch up 하는 것은 그들을 속여서 어렵거나 불쾌한 상황, 특히 그들이 하지 않은 일로 비난받는 상황에 처하게 하는 것이다)." 영국식(British) 인포멀(informal)한 표현이다.

"He claimed that a police officer had threatened to stitch him up and send him to prison(그는 경찰이 그에게 죄를 뒤집어씌우고 감옥으로 보내겠다고 협박했다고 주장했다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'stitch up'을 "to cheat somebody or put them in a position where they seem guilty of something they have not done(누군가를 속이거나 그들이 저지르지 않은 일에 관해 유죄인 것처럼 보이는 자리에 처하게 하다)"이라고 설명했다

"If you don't insist on a contract, they'll stitch you up(네가 계약서를 써야 한다고 주장하지 않으면 그들이 네게 사기를 칠 거야)."

롱맨 사전은 'stitch somebody/something up'을 "to make someone seem guilty of a crime by providing false information(가짜 정보를 제공함으로써 어떤 사람이 한 범죄에 관해 유죄인 것처럼 보이게 만들다)"이라고 풀이했다.
