케임브릿지 사전은 'shake out'을 "to hold something such as a piece of cloth at one end and shake it up and down to get rid of dirt or folds(천 조각 같은 것을 한쪽 끝으로 잡고 위아래로 흔들어 먼지나 주름을 없애다)"라고 정의했다.

"I was on the back doorstep shaking out a rug(나는 뒷문에서 러그를 털고 있었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'shake out'을 이렇게 설명했다.
