케임브릿지 사전은 'taskmaster'를 "someone who gives others a lot of work to do and expects them to work hard(다른 사람들에게 해야 할 일을 많이 주고 열심히 일하기를 기대하는 사람)"라고 정의했다.

"Our new teacher is a hard/tough/harsh taskmaster(우리 새 선생님은 어려운/힘든/가혹한 숙제를 내주신다)."

콜린스 사전은 'taskmaster'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you refer to someone as a hard taskmaster, you mean that they expect the people they supervise to work very hard(어떤 사람을 어려운 taskmaster라고 묘사한다면, 그들이 감독하는 사람들이 아주 열심히 일하기를 기대한다는 뜻이다)."
