케임브릿지 사전은 'altercation'을 "a loud argument or disagreement(시끄러운 논쟁 또는 의견 충돌)"라고 정의했다.
"According to witnesses, the altercation between the two men started inside the restaurant(증인들에 의하면 두 남자 사이의 언쟁은 레스토랑 안에서 시작됐다.)."
콜린스 사전은 'altercation'을 이렇게 설명했다. "An altercation is a noisy argument or disagreement(altercation은 시끄러운 논쟁 또는 의견 충돌이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.
"I had a slight altercation with some people who objected to our filming(우리의 촬영을 반대한 일부 사람들과 약간의 언쟁이 있었다)."
옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'altercation'을 "a noisy argument or disagreement(시끄러운 논쟁 또는 의견 충돌)"라고 풀이했다.
