케임브릿지 사전은 'tight-lipped'를 "refusing to say very much about something(어떤 것에 대해 말을 많이 하기를 거부하는)"이라고 정의했다.

"He remained tight-lipped about whether the union would declare a strike(그는 조합이 파업을 선언할 것인지에 대해서는 말을 아꼈다)."

콜린스 사전은 'tight-lipeed'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe someone as tight-lipped, you mean that they are unwilling to give any information about something(어떤 사람을 tight-lipped라고 묘사한다면 그들이 어떤 것에 대해 어떤 정보도 주기를 꺼린다는 뜻이다)."

"She's always been famously tight-lipped about her love life(그녀는 언제나 자신의 연애 생활에 대해 말을 아끼는 것으로 유명하다)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'tight-lipped'를 "not willing to talk about something(어떤 것에 대해 이야기하고 싶지 않아 하는)"이라고 풀이했다.

"Despite the rumours, government officials remained tight-lipped today(소문들에도 불구하고 국가 공무원들은 오늘도 말을 아꼈다)."
