케임브릿지 사전은 'ream someone (out)'을 "to tell someone off severely because you strongly disapprove of their behaviour(어떤 사람의 행동이 무척 못마땅하다고 생각하기에 그들을 심하게 혼내다)"라고 정의했다.

"The boss reamed them out for sleeping on the job(상사는 그들이 근무 중 졸았다고 그들을 호되게 꾸짖었다)."

메리암웹스터 사전은 'ream (out)'을 "to criticize (someone) severely or angrily especially for personal failings(특히 개인적인 결함 때문에 어떤 사람을 심하게 또는 화를 내며 비판하다)"라고 설명했다.

"you are so going to get reamed out when the boss learns that you wrecked the company car(회사 차를 망가뜨린 걸 상사가 알면 너는 엄청 크게 혼날 거다)"

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'ream out'을 "to criticize somebody strongly because they have done something wrong(어떤 사람이 무언가를 잘못했기에 그들을 비판하다)"이라고 풀이했다.
