케임브릿지 사전은 'scant'를 "very little and not enough(아주 적고 충분하지 않은)"라고 정의했다.

"He pays scant attention to the needs of his children(그는 아이들의 필요에 거의 신경을 쓰지 않는다)."

"scant regard for the truth(진실에 대한 무시)"

콜린스 사전은 'scant'를 이렇게 설명했다. "You use scant to indicate that there is very little of something or not as much of something as there should be(어떤 것이 거의 없거나 마땅히 있어야 할 만큼 있지 않음을 나타내기 위해 scant를 쓸 수 있다)."
