케임브릿지 사전은 'extortion'을 "the act of getting something, especially money, by force or threats(어떤 것, 특히 돈을, 무력이나 협박으로 얻어내는 행위)"라고 정의했다.

"He was found guilty of obtaining the money by extortion(그는 돈을 갈취해 뜯어낸 혐의로 유죄를 선고받았다)."

"She's trying to protect her son from extortion(그녀는 아들이 돈을 갈취당하지 않도록 보호하려 한다)."
