케임브릿지 사전은 'finger-pointing'을 "a situation in which someone is blamed for something that goes wrong(무언가 잘못된 일로 인해 어떤 사람이 비난받는 상황)"이라고 정의했다.

"There's the usual finger-pointing when mistakes are made(실수를 저지르면 그렇듯이 대체로 남을 비난한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'finger-pointing'을 "the act of assigning blame as for a harmful policy or unwise decision to another or others, often in an effort to deflect blame from oneself(유해한 정책 또는 현명하지 못한 결정에 대해, 대체로 자신에게서 비난을 피하려는 노력으로, 상대방 또는 타인에게 비난을 전가하는 행위)"라고 설명했다. 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'finger-pointing'을 "the act of accusing somebody of doing something(어떤 사람이 무엇을 했다고 고발하는 행위)"이라고 풀이했다.

"There was a lot of finger-pointing over who was to blame for the mistake(그 실수에 대해 누가 비난받을 사람인지에 대한 많은 고발이 있었다)."
