케임브릿지 사전은 'sequester'를 "to keep people, especially a jury, together in a place so that they cannot be influenced by other people, by newspaper reports, etc.(사람들, 특히 배심원단을 한곳에 모아 두어서 다른 사람들, 신문 기자들 등에게 영향받을 수 없게 하다)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'sequester'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If someone is sequestered somewhere, they are isolated from other people(어떤 사람이 어떤 곳에서 sequester 된다면, 다른 사람들로부터 격리되는 것이다)." 격식을 차린(formal) 표현이다.

"This jury is expected to be sequestered for at least two months(이 배심원은 최소한 두 달 동안 격리될 것으로 본다)."

​옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'sequester'를 "to keep a jury together in a place, in order to prevent them from talking to other people about a court case, or learning about it in the newspapers, on television, etc.(배심원이 법정 사건에 관해 다른 사람에게 이야기하거나, 그것에 대해 신문이나 텔레비전 등으로부터 배우는 것을 막기 위해, 그들을 한곳에 모아두다)"라고 풀이했다.
