케임브릿지 사전은 'unflinching'을 "not frightened of or not trying to avoid something dangerous or unpleasant(위험하거나 불쾌한 것을 두려워하거나 피하려고 하지 않는)"라고 정의했다.

"It is a brave and unflinching account of prison life(그것은 교도소 생활에 관한, 용감하고 위축되지 않는 설명이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'unflinching'을 이렇게 설명했다. "You can use unflinching in expressions such as unflinching honesty and unflinching support to indicate that a good quality which someone has is strong and steady, and never weakens(강하고 꾸준하며, 절대 약해지지 않는, 어떤 사람이 가진 좋은 자질을 가리키기 위해 unflinching한 정직함 그리고 unflinching한 지지 같은 표현들에서 unflinching을 사용할 수 있다.)."
