케임브릿지 사전은 'foolhardy'를 "brave in a silly way, taking unnecessary risks(불필요한 위험을 감수하며, 바보스럽게 용감한)"라고 정의했다.

"a foolhardy decision(무모한 결정)"

"Sailing the Atlantic in such a tiny boat wasn't so much brave as foolhardy(대서양을 그렇게 작은 배로 항해하겠다는 것은 용감한 게 아니라 무모한 것이다)."

"It would be foolhardy to try and predict the outcome of the talks at this stage(이 단계에서 회담의 결과를 예측하기란 무모한 일이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'foolhardy'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe behaviour as foolhardy, you disapprove of it because it is extremely risky(어떤 행동을 foolhardy라고 묘사한다면, 그것이 극도로 위험하기 때문에 이를 못마땅하게 여기는 것이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"When he tested an early vaccine on himself, some described the act as foolhardy(그가 초기 백신을 스스로에게 실험했을 때, 혹자는 이를 무모하다고 표현했다)." 

"It was foolhardy to have refused(그것을 거절하다니 무모했다)." 

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'foolhardy'를 "taking unnecessary risks(불필요한 위험을 감수하는)"라고 풀이했다.

"It would be foolhardy to sail in weather like this(이런 날씨에 항해하는 것은 무모한 짓이다)."
