케임브릿지 사전은 'soothsayer'를 "a person who is believed to have the ability to know and tell what will happen in the future(미래에 무슨 일이 일어날지 알고 말할 수 있는 능력을 가졌다고 믿어지는 사람)"라고 정의했다.

콜린스 사전은 'soothsayer'를 이렇게 설명했다. "In former times, soothsayers were people who believed they could see into the future and say what was going to happen(옛날에 soothsayer는 미래를 보고 무엇이 일어날지 말할 수 있다고 여겨지는 사람이었다)."

"She continues to be considered a soothsayer by people in government(그녀는 계속해서 정부 내 사람들에게 예언자로 여겨지고 있다)." 

옥스포드 학습자 사전은 'soothsayer'를 "a person who is believed to be able to tell what will happen in the future(미래에 어떤 일이 일어날지 말할 수 있다고 여겨지는 사람)"라고 풀이했다.
