케임브릿지 사전은 'high-flyer'를 "someone who has a lot of ability and a strong wish to be successful and is therefore expected to achieve a lot(능력이 많고 성공하고 싶은 강한 소원이 있으며 따라서 많은 성취를 이룰 거라고 기대되는 사람)"이라고 정의했다.

"High-flyers in the industry typically earn 25 percent more than their colleagues(이 업계의 야심가들은 일반적으로 동료들보다 25퍼센트 더 이상 큰 소득을 번다)."

콜린스 사전은 'high-flyer'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A high-flyer is someone who has a lot of ability and is likely to be very successful in their career(high-flyer는 능력이 많고 커리어에서 아주 성공할 가능성이 높은 사람이다)."

"City high-flyers have been snapping up farmland in the belief that crop prices will soar(도시의 야심가들은 작물 가격이 치솟을 거라는 믿음으로 농지를 덥석 사고 있다)." 

케임브릿지 사전은 'high-flyer'를 "a person who has the desire and the ability to be very successful in their job or their studies(일이나 학업에서 성공하려는 욕망과 능력이 있는 사람)"라고 풀이했다.
