[영어 공부] brainchild(아이디어, 발명품)

 

만약에 뇌로 아이를 낳을 수 있다면 어떨까? 안 아플까? 

농담이고, 'brainchild'는 '아이디어, 발명품'이라는 뜻이다. '뇌를 써서 만든 아이'니까 당연히 어떤 사람의 떠올린 '아이디어'나 '발명품'을 뜻하는 게 자연스럽다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'brainchild'를 "an original idea, plan, or invention(독창적인 아이디어, 계획, 또는 발명품)"이라고 정의했다.

"The project was the brainchild of one of the students(그 프로젝트는 학생들 중 한 명의 아이디어였다)."

콜린스 사전은 'brainchild'를 이렇게 설명했다. "Someone's brainchild is an idea or invention that they have thought up or created(누군가의 brainchild란 그들이 생각해 내거나 창조해 낸 아이디어 또는 발명품이다)." 

"The project was the brainchild of the British Council offices in India(그 프로젝트는 인도에 있는 영국 문화원이 떠올린 아이디어이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'brainchild'를 "a clever system, organization, or plan that someone thinks of and develops(누군가 생각하고 발전시키는 영리한 시스템, 조직, 또는 계획)"라고 풀이했다. 

"The plan is the brainchild of Divisional Officer Jim Smith(그 계획은 부서관인 짐 스미스의 아이디어이다)."
