[영어 공부] go-between(중재자, 중개인)

 

'go-between'은 사람들 사이(between)를 왔다 갔다(go) 하는 사람, 즉 '중재자, 중개인'을 말한다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'go-between'을 "someone who takes messages between people who are unable or unwilling to meet(만날 수 없거나 만나고 싶지 않아 하는 사람들 사이에서 메시지를 전달해 주는 사람)"이라고 정의했다.

"The ambassador has offered to act as a go-between for the two countries involved in the conflict(대사는 충돌하는 두 국가들 사이의 중재자 역할을 하겠다고 제안했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'go-between'을 이렇게 설명했다. "A go-between is a person who takes messages between people who are unable or unwilling to meet each other(go-between은 만날 수 없거나 만나고 싶지 않아 하는 사람들 사이에서 메시지를 전달해 주는 사람이다)."

"He will act as a go-between to try and work out an agenda(그는 안건을 제시해 보는 중재자의 역할을 할 것이다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'go-between'을  "someone who takes messages between people who cannot meet or who do not want to meet(만날 수 없거나 만나고 싶지 않아 하는 사람들 사이에서 메시지를 전달해 주는 사람)"이라고 풀이했다.
