[영어 공부] from the top(처음부터)

 

오늘 표현은 영화나 드라마에서도 많이 들어 보셨음직하다.

'from the top'은 롱맨 사전에 구어체(spoken)로 "an expression meaning from the beginning, used especially in the theatre(특히 공연에서 '시작'을 의미하는 표현"이라고 나와 있다.

"Right, let’s take it from the top once more(좋아, 처음부터 한 번 더 가자)."처럼 쓴다.

'take it from the top'은 아예 메리암 웹스터에 표제어로 올라 있다. "to start from the beginning of a scene, song, etc.(장면이나 노래 등을 처음부터 시작하다)"라는 의미이다.

"OK, everybody. Let's take it from the top(좋았어, 모두. 처음부터 시작한다)."
