케임브릿지 사전은 'condition'이라는 동사를 "to train or influence a person or animal mentally so that they do or expect a particular thing without thinking about it(생각하지 않고도 특정한 일을 하거나 기대하도록 사람이나 동물을 훈련시키거나 그렇게 되도록 영향을 끼치다)"이라고 정의했다.
