케임브릿지 사전은 'plauge'를 "to cause worry, pain, or difficulty to someone or something over a period of time(어떤 사람 또는 어떤 것에게 일정 기간 동안 걱정, 고통, 또는 어려움을 초래하다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Financial problems have been plaguing their new business partners(재정적 문제가 그들의 새 사업 파트너를 괴롭혀 왔다)."

"My shoulder's been plaguing me all week(이번 주 내내 어깨 때문에 죽겠다)."
