[영어 공부] cheat sheet(커닝 페이퍼, 도움이 되는 내용을 담은 쪽지)

 

'cheat sheet'는 '커닝 페이퍼'를 말하는데, 꼭 시험을 위한 커닝 페이퍼가 아니더라도 도움이 되는 내용을 담은 문서 등을 'cheat sheet'라고 할 수 있다.

예를 들어서 엑셀 작업을 쉽고 빠르게 하는 팁이라든지 엑셀 단축키 정보 등을 모은 글도 'cheat sheet'라고 할 수 있다.

케임브릿지 사전은 'cheat sheet'를 "a piece of paper, computer file, etc. that gives you useful information about a subject, or helps you remember or do something, sometimes used for cheating in a test or examination(어떤 분야에 대해 유용한 정보를 주거나 어떤 것을 기억하거나 하는 데 도움을 주는 종이, 컴퓨터 파일 등. 때로 시험이나 검사에서 커닝을 하는 데 쓰인다)"이라고 정의했다.

"We've created a cheat sheet of cool gadgets that can make campus life more productive and fun(우리는 캠퍼스 생활을 더욱 생산적이고 재밌게 만들어 준 멋진 도구들의 커닝 페이퍼를 만들어 보았습니다)."

"Cheat sheets, once written on the palm of the hand, now can be stored on programmable calculators and watches(함때 손바닥에 쓰이던 커닝 페이퍼는 이제 프로그램 가능한 계산기나 시계에도 저장할 수 있다)."

콜린스 사전은 'cheat sheet'를 이렇게 설명했다. "A cheat sheet is a short list of information that you can use to help you do or remember something(cheat sheet는 어떤 것을 하거나 기억하는 데 도움을 주기 위해 사용할 수 있는 정보의 짧은 목록이다)."

"If this all sounds too hard to remember, print out the cheat sheet and stick it on the side of your computer screen for quick reference(이것이 기억하기 어렵게 들린다면, 재빨리 확인할 수 있도록 이 커닝 페이퍼를 출력하셔서 컴퓨터 스크린 한쪽에 붙여 놓으세요)."

맥밀란 사전은 'cheat sheet'를 "a crib note"라고 풀이했는데, 이는 "a sheet of paper containing information that a student uses dishonestly in an examination(학생이 시험에서 부정한 방법으로 사용하는, 정보를 담은 종이)"이라는 뜻이다.
