[영어 공부] paragon(귀감, 모범)

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'paragon'을 "a person or thing that is perfect or has an extremely large amount of a particular good characteristic(완벽하거나 특정한 좋은 특징을 극히 많이 가진 사람 또는 사물)"이라고 정의했다.

"In the novel, Constanza is a paragon of virtue(그 소설에서 콘스탄자는 미덕의 귀감이다)."

콜린스 사전은 'paragon'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you refer to someone as a paragon, you mean that they are perfect or have a lot of a good quality(어떤 사람을 paragon이라는 말로 가리키면, 그들이 완벽하거나, 좋은 자질을 많이 가지고 있다는 뜻이다)."

"We don't expect candidates to be paragons of virtue(우리는 후보들이 미덕의 귀감이기를 기대하지는 않습니다)."

"...a paragon of neatness, efficiency and reliability(...깔끔함, 효율성과 믿음직함의 귀감)."

맥밀란 사전은 'paragon'을 "someone who is perfect or who is the best possible example of a particular quality(완벽하거나 특정한 자질의 가능한 한 최고의 일례인 사람)"라고 풀이했다.
