[영어 공부] steer clear of sb/sth(~에 가까이 가지 않다, ~을 피하다)

 

케임브릿지 사전은 'steer clear of sb/sth'을 "to avoid someone or something that seems unpleasant, dangerous, or likely to cause problems(불쾌하거나, 위험하거나, 문제를 일으킬 것처럼 보이는 어떤 사람 또는 사물을 피하다)"라고 정의했다.

"Her speech steered clear of controversial issues(그녀는 논란이 되는 이슈들을 피해서 대화했다)."

"They warned their children to steer clear of drugs(그들은 아이들에게 마약 근처엔 얼씬도 하지 말라고 경고했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'steer clear of sb/sth'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you steer clear of someone or something, you deliberately avoid them(어떤 사람 또는 사물로부터 steer clear 한다면, 고의적으로 그들을 피하는 것이다)."
