케임브릿지 사전은 'tactful'을 "careful not to say or do anything that could upset someone(누군가의 마음을 상하게 할 수 있는 것을 말하거나 행하지 않을 정도로 조심스러운)"이라고 정의했다.

"Mentioning his baldness wasn't very tactful(그의 벗어진 머리를 언급하는 것은 눈치 빠른 사람이 할 법한 일은 아니었다)."

콜린스 사전은 'tactful'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If you describe a person or what they say as tactful you approve of them because they are careful not to offend or upset another person(어떤 사람이나 그들이 하는 말을 tactful 하다고 표현한다면, 그들이 다른 이들의 기분을 상하게 하거나 마음을 상하게 하지 않을 만큼 조심스럽기 때문에 그들을 긍정적으로 생각하는 것이다)." 

"He had been extremely tactful in dealing with the financial question(그는 재정적 질문을 다루는 데 아주 솜씨가 좋았다)."

"I decided it wouldn't be tactful to order another drink(나는 한잔 더 시키는 게 지혜로운 일은 아니라고 판단했다)."
