케임브릿지 사전은 'turn up your nose at something'을 "to refuse to accept something because you feel that it is not good enough for you(어떤 것이 당신에게 어울릴 정도로 좋지 않기 때문에 그것을 받아들이기를 거절하다)"라고 정의했다.

"She turned up her nose at the job because she didn’t think it had enough status(그녀는 그 일이 그녀에게 적절한 지위가 아니라고 생각해서 그 일을 경멸했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'turn up your nose at or turn your nose up at something or someone'을 "to show contempt for(~을 경멸하다)"라고 설명했다.
