케임브릿지 사전은 'seep'을 "to move or spread slowly out of a hole or through something(구멍 또는 어떤 것을 통해 움직이거나 천천히 퍼지다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Pesticides are seeping out of farmland and into the water supply(살충제가 농지에서 새어나와 상수도로 흘러들어가고 있다)."

"Given the intense secrecy of the arms business, information only seeps out in company literature(무기 산업의 극심한 비밀 유지성을 고려하면, 정보는 오직 기업 문서에서만 삐져나온다)."

콜린스 사전은 'seep'을 이렇게 설명했다. "If something such as liquid or gas seeps somewhere, it flows slowly and in small amounts into a place where it should not go(액체나 가스 같은 것이 어디론가 seep 한다면, 적은 양이 천천히 흘러서 가지 말아야 할 곳으로 간다는 뜻이다)."

"Radioactive water had seeped into underground reservoirs(방사성을 가진 물이 지하 저수지로 흘러들어갔다)."

"The gas is seeping out of the rocks(그 가스가 바위들에서 뿜어져 나오고 있다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'seep'을 "to flow into or out of something through small holes, usually when this should not happen(대개 그래야 하지 말아야 할 때, 작은 구멍들을 안으로  흘러가거나, 그것들 안에서 흘러나오다)"이라고 풀이했다.

"The rain had seeped through his clothes(비가 그의 옷에 스며들었다)."

"Poisonous chemicals from the factory are seeping into our soil(그 공장에서 나온 독성 화학 물질이 우리 토양에 스며들고 있다)."

"The helium will slowly seep out of the balloon(헬륨이 풍선에서 천천히 흘러나올 것이다)."
