콜린스 사전은 'as ... as they come'을 "the most characteristic example of a class or type(어떤 계급 또는 유형의 가장 특징적인 예)"이라고 정의했다.

맥밀란 사전은 'as nice/big etc as they come'을 "used for emphasizing how nice/big etc someone or something is(누구 또는 무엇이 얼마나 좋은지/큰지를 강조하기 위해 쓰는 말)"이라고 설명했다.
