케임브릿지 사전은 'touch-and-go'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If a situation is touch-and-go, it is uncertain(어떤 상황이 touch-and-go 하다면, 불확실한 것이다)."

"The doctor says that it's touch-and-go whether Mary will be okay(의사 선생님 말로는 메리가 괜찮을지는 불확실하다고 한다)."

콜린스 사전은 'touch and go'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that something is touch and go, you mean that you are uncertain whether it will happen or succeed(어떤 것이 touch and go 하다고 말하면, 그것이 일어나거나 성공할지가 불확실하다는 뜻이다)."

"It was touch and go whether we'd go bankrupt(우리가 파산할지 아슬아슬한 상황이었다)."

맥밀란 사전은 'touch-and-go'를 "not certain and with a risk of death or serious failure(확실하지 않고 죽음 또는 심각한 실패의 위험이 있는)"라고 풀이했다.
