케임브릿지 사전은 'untapped'를 이렇게 정의했다. "If a supply of something valuable is untapped, it is not yet used or taken advantage of(어떤 가치 있는 것의 공급이 untapped 하다면, 그것이 아직 사용되거나 활용되지 않았다는 뜻이다)."

"untapped assets/resources/markets/talent(활용하지 않은 재산/자원/시장/재능)"

콜린스 사전은 'untapped'를 이렇게 설명했다. "An untapped supply or source of something has not yet been used(untapped 한 공급 또는 원천은 아직 사용되지 않은 것은 아니다)."

"Mongolia, although poor, has considerable untapped resources of oil and minerals(몽골은 가난하지만 아직 개발되지 않은 원유와 광물 자원이 상당히 많다)." 

"There is enormous, acknowledged and untapped potential in the Indian stock markets(인도 주식 시장은 상당히 크고 인정받은, 아직 개척되지 않은 가능성이 있다)." 

맥밀란 사전은 'untapped'를 "not being used yet, but existing in large amounts that could bring profits or benefits(아직 사용되지 않은, 그러나 이익이나 혜택을 가져다줄 수 있는 것이 다량으로 존재하는)"라고 풀이했다.

"The oil reserves in this area remain largely untapped(이 지역에 비축된 원유는 대체로 사용되지 않았다)."
