케임브릿지 사전은 'recuperation'을 "the process of becoming well again after an illness or of getting back your strength, health, etc.(질병을 앓은 이후 다시 건강해지는 또는 원래의 힘, 건강 등으로 돌아가는 과정)"라고 정의했다.

"You need to allow time for rest and recuperation(당신은 휴식과 회복을 위한 시간을 낼 필요가 있습니다)."

"He went home to continue his recuperation from a third operation(그는 세 번째 수술 이후 회복을 지속하기 위해 집으로 갔다)."

콜린스 사전은 'recuperate'를 이렇게 설명했다. "When you recuperate, you recover your health or strength after you have been ill or injured(recuperate 한다면, 아팠거나 부상당했던 이후 다시 건강 또는 힘을 되찾는 것이다)."
