케임브릿지 사전은 'rant'를 "to speak, write or shout in a loud, uncontrolled, or angry way, often saying confused or silly things(대개 혼란스럽거나 유치한 것에 관해 크거나, 억제되지 않거나, 화를 내며 말하거나 글을 쓰다)"라고 정의했다.

"He's always ranting (on) about the government(그는 언제나 정부에 대해 큰소리로 불평한다)."

"I get fed up with my mother ranting and raving (about my clothes) all the time(나는 언제나 (내 옷에 대해) 불평하고 열변을 토하는 엄마에게 넌더리가 난다)."

콜린스 사전은 'rant'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone rants, you mean that they talk loudly or angrily, and exaggerate or say foolish things(어떤 사람이 rant 한다고 말한다면, 그들이 크게, 또는 화를 내며 과장하거나 바보 같은 이야기를 한다는 뜻이다)."

"Ned paced back and forth, ranting about some imagined injustice(네드는 상상 속의 부정의에 대해 불평하며 이리저리 서성거렸다)."
