케임브릿지 사전은 'foist something on someone'을 "to force someone to have or experience something they do not want(어떤 사람으로 하여금 그들이 원치 않는 것을 가지거나 경험하게 강요하다)"라고 정의했다.

"I try not to foist my values on the children but it's hard(나는 내 가치를 아이들에게 강요하지 않으려 하지만, 쉽지 않다)."

콜린스 사전은 'foist'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that someone foists something on you, or foists it upon you, you dislike the way that they force you to listen to it or experience it(어떤 사람이 어떤 것을 당신에게 foist 한다면, 또는 그것을 foist upon you 한다면, 그들이 당신에게 그것을 들으라고 또는 경험하라고 강요하는 점을 당신이 싫어하는 것이다)." 못마땅해하는(disapproval) 뉘앙스이다.

"Voters are tired of new regulations foisted on them by faceless lawmakers(투표자들은 얼굴 없는 입법자들이 그들에게 강요한 새로운 규제에 지쳤다)."
