케임브릿지 사전은 'be au fait with something'을 "to be familiar with or know about something(어떤 것에 익숙하거나 그것을 알다)"이라고 정의했다.

"Are you au fait with the rules of the game?(그 게임의 규칙에 익숙한가요?)"

콜린스 사전은 'au fait'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you are au fait with something, you are familiar with it and know about it(어떤 것과 au fait 하다면, 그것에 익숙하고 아는 것이다)."

"...children who are so much more au fait with today's technology(...오늘날 기술에 더 익숙한 아이들)."

맥밀란 사전은 'au fait'를 "informed of the most recent facts or information about something(어떤 것에 관한 가장 최근의 사실이나 정보를 아는)"이라고 풀이했다.

"I’m not really au fait with the latest computer technology(난 최신 컴퓨터 기술은 정통하지 못해)."
