케임브릿지 사전은 'perennial'을 "lasting a very long time, or happening repeatedly or all the time(아주 오랜 시간 동안 지속되거나 반복적으로, 또는 늘 일어나는)"이라고 정의했다.

"The film "White Christmas" is a perennial favourite(영화 '화이트 크리스마스'는 시간이 지나도 인기 있는 영화다)."

"We face the perennial problem of not having enough money(우리는 돈이 충분하지 않다는 문제를 반복적으로 직면했다)."

콜린스 사전은 'perennial'을 이렇게 설명했다. "You use perennial to describe situations or states that keep occurring or which seem to exist all the time; used especially to describe problems or difficulties(perennial이라는 단어는 계속 일어나거나 언제나 존재하는 것 같은 상황이나 상태를 묘사하기 위해 쓴다. 특히 문제나 어려움을 묘사하는 데 쓴다)."
