케임브릿지 사전은 'in the midst of something'을 "in the middle of an event, situation, or activity(어떤 사건, 상황, 또는 활동의 중간에)"라고 정의했다.

"I'm sorry but I'm too busy to help right now - I'm in the midst of writing a report(죄송하지만 제가 도와드리기엔 지금 너무 바빠서요. 보고서 쓰는 중이에요)."

콜린스 사전은 'in the midst of'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you are in the midst of doing something, you are doing it at the moment(어떤 것의 in the midst 하다면, 당시에 그것을 하는 중인 것이다)."
