케임브릿지 사전은 'insouciant'를 "relaxed and happy, with no feelings of worry or guilt(걱정이나 죄책감 없이 느긋하고 행복한)"라고 정의했다.

"He sometimes seems insouciant to the point of carelessness(그는 때로 부주의할 정도로 태평해 보인다)."

"It is easy to see where her reputation for insouciant charm has come from(그녀의 태평한 매력이라는 평판이 어디서 왔는지 알아보기는 쉽다)."

콜린스 사전은 'insouciant'를 이렇게 설명했다. "An insouciant action or quality shows someone's lack of concern about something which they might be expected to take more seriously(insouciant한 행동이나 질은 그들이 더 진지하게 받아들이기도 기대되는 것에 대한 걱정의 부재를 보여 주는 것이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

"Programme-makers seem irresponsibly insouciant about churning out violence(프로그램 제작자들은 폭력을 대량 생산하는 데 무책임하게도 태평해 보인다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'insouciant'를 "not worrying or caring about anything(어떤 것에 대해서도 걱정하거나 신경 쓰지 않는)"이라고 풀이했다.
