케임브릿지 사전은 'window'를 "a period when there is an opportunity to do something(어떤 것을 할 수 있는 기회가 있는 기간)"이라고 정의했다.

"I'm busy this week but there might be a window on Friday(이번 주엔 바쁜데 금요일에 짧게 시간이 날지도 몰라)."

"If a window of opportunity (= an opportunity) should present itself, I'd take advantage of it(기회가 있다면, 그걸 이용해 보겠다)."

콜린스 사전은 'window of opportunity'를 이렇게 설명했다. "If you say that there is a window of opportunity for something, you mean that there is an opportunity to do something but that this opportunity will only last for a short time and so it needs to be taken advantage of quickly(어떤 것을 할 수 있는 window of opportunity라고 한다면, 어떤 것을 할 기회가 있지만, 이것이 짧은 기간 동안만 지속되며 따라서 재빨리 이것을 이용해야 한다는 뜻이다)."

"The king said there was now a window of opportunity for peace(왕은 이제 평화를 위한 기회가 있다고 말했다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'window'를 "​a time when there is an opportunity to do something, although it may not last long(길게 지속되지 않음에도 불구하고 어떤 것을 할 기회가 있는 시간)"이라고 풀이했다.

"We now have a small window of opportunity in which to make our views known(우리는 이제 우리의 견해를 알릴 작은 기회가 있다)."

"Do you have a window next Monday?(다음주 월요일에 시간 있으세요?)"
