케임브릿지 사전은 'apprehension'을 "worry about the future, or a fear that something unpleasant is going to happen(미래에 대한 걱정, 또는 불쾌한 것이 일어날 거라는 두려움)"이라고 정의했다.

"It's normal to feel a little apprehension before starting a new job(새 일을 시작하기 전에 조금 불안을 느끼는 것은 정상이다)."

"One or two people have expressed apprehension about the changes(한두 사람이 변화에 관한 우려를 표현했다)."

"Despite her apprehensions, she accepted the offer(불안에도 불구하고, 그녀는 그 제안을 받아들였다)."

콜린스 사전은 'apprehension'을 이렇게 설명했다. "Apprehension is a feeling of fear that something bad may happen(apprehension이란 나쁜 일이 일어날지도 모른다는 두려운 느낌이다)." 포멀(formal)한 표현이다.

"It reflects real anger and apprehension about the future(그것은 미래에 대한 진정한 분노와 불안을 반영한다)."

옥스퍼드 학습자 사전은 'apprehension'을 "worry or fear that something unpleasant may happen(불쾌한 일이 일어날지 모른다는 걱정 또는 두려움)"이라고 풀이했다.
